Satara City, situated at the foot of the historical fort ‘Ajinkyatara’ and the holy hill ‘Yavateshwara’ has it’s own social,cultural and historical heritage.Right from the great Maratha Emperor Chh. Shivaji and many other renowed social reformers as well as a number of social workers played an important role in creating this heritage. Satara Maratha Vidyaprasarak Samaj’ was established on 1st September 1907 by late Shrimant Rudrajiraje Mahadik(Tarale),Rao Bahadur Sambhajirao Duduskar and other workers in the first decade of 20th century under the inspiration of Chh. Shahu Maharaj of Kolhapur and his work of social upliftment. The institution started Maharani Jamanabai Boarding,which aimed at providing facilities of lodging and boarding to the hundreds of students coming from rural area to Satara City.It also opened the ‘Feeding Center’ to cope with deficiency of nutritious food and enabling the youths to enter Indian Army and made unique contribution to the defence services of the nation. The establishment of ‘Arts and Commerce college,Satara’ is a special activity run by the institution. The College has been working to shape the students intellectually,physically,culturally and spiritually and develop them into good citizen of India.
